OUR LAW FIRM
Bay Law Office was established in Blockhouse Bay in 1983 by Kerry Deane and Peter Jacobson, with a vision of providing high‑quality, practical legal services to individuals and businesses at a local and cost‑effective level. Our practice quickly developed a loyal client base and a strong reputation within the community. Over the years, our practice has grown steadily, supported by long‑standing staff and clients.
In 2016, Craig Nelson, a partner in a city law firm, joined us, bringing extensive commercial and forestry expertise and a diverse mix of local, national and international clients.
In 2018, Kerry retired as a partner following ill health and has since stepped away from active involvement with the firm.
In 2022, Matthew Cho joined us from a large national law firm, strengthening our property practice. Matthew brought with him property development expertise and local government experience, having previously worked as an in‑house lawyer. Following our incorporation in 2023, Matthew was invited to become a director.
At the end of May 2026, Peter retired from practice after more than four decades serving clients and the local community.
His contribution forms an important part of our history, and while he has stepped back from day‑to‑day practice, he remains available to assist the firm on an as‑needed basis, including providing continuity for many long‑standing clients.
More than forty years on, we remain true to our original ideals. We continue to provide comprehensive legal services across a broad range of practice areas and maintain a strong network of specialist advisers to support our clients when needed.
